Where Toronto Takes Flight

In the heart of Toronto, the largest urban redevelopment in North America is underway. Called YZD, the call-sign of the former Downsview Airport, its 370 acres will become seven vibrant neighbourhoods, featuring homes, parks, shops, schools and workplaces. YZD will redefine what it means to live in a city that prioritizes quality of life.

Honouring Indigenous History

These lands are part of the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, signatories of Treaty 13 and Host First Nation to YZD. For thousands of years, it has been the Traditional Territory of many First Nations, including the Huron-Wendat and the Haudenosaunee peoples. We are committed to the wise stewardship of these lands and to meaningful engagement and partnership with Indigenous Peoples, as we strive to shape communities welcoming to all.

Step Into Toronto's Vibrant Future

YZD is in the heart of the fastest-growing region in North America. Its centrepiece is the reimagined pedestrianized two-kilometre Runway. The shared backyard for seven future neighbourhoods, The Runway will set a new standard for public space in Toronto.

YZD’s many parks and open spaces will be interspersed throughout, all within minutes of homes and work. Its streets are designed for people, not only engines. Everything will be within reach:childcare, shops, schools and everyday services that are part of the richness of city living.

A Phased Approach

Made up of seven distinct and interconnected neighbourhoods, YZD will be developed in phases over the coming decades.

Hangar District

Rooted in YZD’s legacy of aerospace innovation, The Hangar District marks the first chapter in the site’s transformation. Historic hangars will be thoughtfully repurposed, setting the tone for a neighbourhood defined by purpose and possibility.

Wilson District

As the southern gateway to YZD, Wilson District is designed to connect people, places, and opportunity. Located at the south end of the reimagined Runway, this future neighbourhood will deliver thousands of new homes and jobs, alongside parks, community spaces, and essential services. With direct access to Wilson Station, it will become a vital hub of daily life—and a key connector within the broader YZD network.
Discover play, creativity and community at YZD today. As Toronto’s newest cultural destination, the heart and soul of YZD is being created long before buildings are built.
Come experience the site firsthand through special events and permanent installations and be a part of defining Toronto’s next chapter.
