In the heart of Toronto, the largest urban redevelopment in North America is underway. Called YZD, the call-sign of the former Downsview Airport, its 370 acres will become seven vibrant neighbourhoods, featuring homes, parks, shops, schools and workplaces. YZD will redefine what it means to live in a city that prioritizes quality of life.
These lands are part of the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, signatories of Treaty 13 and Host First Nation to YZD. For thousands of years, it has been the Traditional Territory of many First Nations, including the Huron-Wendat and the Haudenosaunee peoples. We are committed to the wise stewardship of these lands and to meaningful engagement and partnership with Indigenous Peoples, as we strive to shape communities welcoming to all.

YZD is in the heart of the fastest-growing region in North America. Its centrepiece is the reimagined pedestrianized two-kilometre Runway. The shared backyard for seven future neighbourhoods, The Runway will set a new standard for public space in Toronto.
YZD’s many parks and open spaces will be interspersed throughout, all within minutes of homes and work. Its streets are designed for people, not only engines. Everything will be within reach: childcare, shops, schools and everyday services that are part of the richness of city living.

A look at YZD by the numbers
The progress from 2020 to 2025 can be measured in the people reached, partners engaged, and early environmental gains that are already shaping YZD. This momentum is visible even before construction begins.

Our maps show YZD at a regional and city level, and how the first district will evolve.
Made up of seven distinct and interconnected neighbourhoods, YZD will be developed in phases over the coming decades.
